Whatever you call it, it displays your name so your fellow quilters can easily call you by name. Whether it is at a guild meeting, a quilt show or yes, at QUILTCON your name will be prominent!!
Make yours as simple or as elaborate as you choose! You can choose from the 4 options provided below or create your own.
CDMQG will provide clear vinyl and a name plate for you.
Shabby Fabric DIY Neck Wallet video and PDF instructions.
We all have at least one, likely more than one.
You know what a UFO is, right?
It could be the great idea you bought fabric for but haven’t started, or the one you started but something about it has put it on the back burner.
Maybe it is the one you inherited/received from a sewist relative in the hope you would finish it, or it could be a bag, table runner or garment.
It could be the one that should be cut up and made into something else, or maybe it is all finished except for the quilting.
For the 3rd Quarter Challenge we are Moving UFOs Forward >>>>
Pick one (or more, if you wish) of those UFOs and move it forward...you
might finish it ...you might only take it to the next stage, either way we will celebrate your progress in September.
Send a picture of your selected UFO (s) to Erlinda Rejino to confirm that you have accepted the challenge.
Due at our September meeting.
Fabric Selections:
Create a placemat (or a few) using a complementary color scheme that you have not used before. If you choose to, your placemats will be donated to a Meal Delivery Service in the Capital District for the holiday distribution.
Due at our June meeting/summer picnic.
Our CDMQG challenge corresponds with the EQF Show Challenge:
“Diamonds & Daffodils”
We would like you to create a 16x16 inch “theme quilt” to be entered into the EQF show challenge. Please note on your registration form that this is an EQF Theme Quilt, and it’s part of the CDMQG Diamonds & Daffodils Challenge.
There is no entry fee (unless you want to have your theme quilt judged — then it is $12).
Submit the entry form with a picture of your quilt (or progress picture) by February 15th. It does not have to be finished by then.
Quilts are due for CDMQG Show & Share at our March Meeting.
Quilts must be completed for drop off to the show by April 20.
If you are already planning to enter a theme quilt, please go ahead…but if you weren’t planning on it consider joining this Challenge!
Make as many items as possible for CDMQG to sell at Empire QuiltFest! Here are your options:
POUCHES (TRIANGLE, PENCIL CASE, BOXED-BOTTOM)
PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PDF DOCUMENTS LINKED ABOVE. Templates and block patterns are included as needed.
This is a quantity challenge! We need as many things to sell at our guild table as we can!
Items must be functional, and in salable condition – items you are proud to present to sell.
This challenge will have a big winner! The person bringing the most finished items to the December meeting will win a basket full of awesome prizes including a gift certificate to Amelia’s Garden! We will have another great prize for a randomly-drawn participant as well!
Due at our December meeting.
Make a quilted object using unconventional, unusual or recycled materials as a feature! No requirements for finished size!
Examples of materials to use:
Wool, Old sheets, Plastic bags, Old clothing, Mesh, Ties, Zippers, Denim, Bubble wrap, Leaves, Teabags, Sewing patterns… the options are endless!
The finished piece does not need to be entirely composed of unusual materials, although it can be. The unusual material should be a feature. Feel free to go as crazy or as unconventional as you choose! Be creative and have fun!
Due at our September meeting.
Make a quilt or quilted item featuring the 2023 Pantone color of the year, VIVA MAGENTA. (Pantone Color Code 18-1750 TCX for those of you wanting to try to match the color exactly!)
Pantone describes Viva magenta as “a nuanced crimson red tone that presents a balance between warm and cool.”
We are not specifying a particular fabric for this challenge - you may use any fabric (solid or patterned) featuring this rich shade of magenta!
*Note: if you are trying to exactly match “Viva Magenta”, Kona cotton’s “Sangria” is a good choice!
Due at our June meeting.
Use the block you received at our December 2022 meeting (or any leftover block in your sewing space) to make a small project…
a placemat (or more than one!)
a table or bed runner
a baby quilt
or a project of your choice!
Use the block as a whole, or cut it up and rearrange it into something different, or use it as inspiration for something entirely new! The choice is yours!
Projects are due at the March 2023 meeting. We will collect work from anyone wishing to donate to a local charitable organization.
Inspired by Sarah Ruiz’s 100 Days of Creative Bliss presentation, we’re having another Quilted Postcard Exchange!
We will pair you with a member of Twin States MQG or New Hampshire MQG to send and receive quilted postcards for the holidays!
Need a refresher on how to make quilted postcards? Follow Sarah Ruiz’s tutorial!
The postcard(s) you make must be mailed by December 1st so we can all share them at our December guild meetings!
If you post photos to Social Media please use the hashtag #2022QuiltPostcardSwap @capitaldistrictmqg so we can all see your work!
Who has time to sew winter holiday themed things in December?
Let’s sew them in the summer instead!
Make a mini quilt, a table runner, throw pillows, a tree skirt, stockings, placemats, for your whole family... Anything your heart desires!
Use any winter holiday theme: Christmas, Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, St. Lucia Day, Thanksgiving, New Years Eve, etc!
It’s more fun sewing with friends:
Work on your holiday projects during our Open Sew Day
